Everyone keeps asking me the same question: are you excited? I smile and say ‘yes’, but honestly, I don’t feel excited. Don’t get me wrong, travel is one of my passions and one that I rarely get to partake in, but I never get excited before a big trip. Perhaps it is fear of the unknown, perhaps it’s a fear of leaving home.
All of my possessions for the next 5 weeks lie on the floor at my feet. I’m not looking forward to having to lug all of this around. It’s far too much to take; I already feel over encumbered. There’s nothing that I can do, however, because most of the bulk is camera and sound equipment. Necessities.
With a forecast in the triple-digits here in Tucson, I’m very much looking forward to the high 60s-low 70s (°F) in Orvieto. It’s such a chore to even walk around when it’s 102° (39°C) outside.
Despite all of this: I am ready. I’m ready to experience something new and hopefully make it down to Palermo, my grandfather’s birthplace, before I leave. Hopefully I will be able to upload photos/video often.
