Western Europe is quite expensive. Now that I have wrapped on the film, I have to be able to support myself fully here. As such, I’ve realized that it’s going to be cheaper for me to change my airline ticket and come home a week early than to try and survive here. So I’ve decided to change my ticket and I’ll be coming home on the 15th rather than the 24th. As much as I’d like to stay in Italy I don’t have the money to be able to travel around and enjoy myself for two weeks. I would end up either running myself into the ground in debt or I would end up sitting in my apartment in Orvieto.
Today I walked around Orvieto and bought gifts to bring back home. This weekend is the religious festival of Corpus Christi and Orvieto is known in the region to be especially authentic. The townspeople dress up in medieval costumes and play medieval music. The town is overflowing with tourists from around Italy and beyond. It was difficult to walk in the streets today.
During my downtime, I either listen to music or watch a movie on my iPad. I only have a 16 GB iPad so I was only able to load 6 movies as well as the TV series Firefly. At this point, I’ve watched all of the movies about 3-4 times each (at least). My favorites that are loaded, American Splendorand The Big Lebowski, I’ve watched close to 10 times each. Playing a movie before I fall asleep at night helps me decompress and fall asleep at night. It also helps drown out the noise my housemates make.
I’m planning to travel to Pompeii on Tuesday and to Rome on either Wednesday or Thursday before I fly back to the blistering Tucson heat on Friday.
